Reconnecting with the Essence of our Being through Bodywork
Presentation by Philippe Vandenabeele on the 6th of November 2024
as part of the WELL-BEING WITH ARTS PROJECT by Kyushu University, Japan
Communication is at the core of Bodywork. As an ‘Art of Touch’, Bodywork is about making connections and allowing a dialogue to emerge between practitioner and receiver through the medium of touch. Through the lens of East Asian medicine, the treatment becomes a healing encounter that addresses all aspects of our being, viewing the human microcosm as an integral part of the broader dimensions of life. A practitioner unlocks the full potential of Bodywork when they embody and engage with these profound connections. This dialogue strengthens not only the receiver’s well-being but also the practitioner’s attunement to the web of life.
In his presentation, Philippe Vandenabeele will draw on his more than 30 years of clinical and teaching experience, which have led him to develop his own unique way of working – Shinzui Bodywork -combining a solid foundation in East Asian Bodywork with the latest developments in the field of Western Manual therapy. He will shed light on the multifaceted nature of Bodywork through the lens of Tian Di Ren (天地人), a concept embedded in East Asian culture and central to East Asian medicine which symbolises the harmonious interconnection of Earth, Human, and Heaven.
Philippe Vandenabeele is a Certified Shiatsu practitioner and Instructor with the AOBTA, the American Organisation of Bodywork Therapies of Asia, and the European and Belgian Shiatsu Federations. He is the Director of the Shinzui Bodywork International Institute, and together with his wife Hiroko Kobayashi they have their practice in Fukuoka.
